Dennis Houlihan, Tour and Education Director for the Clean River Project, will discuss the history of the Merrimack River, how it has been neglected, how bad it became and what’s being done to bring it back and save it.

The Clean River Project is a 501c non-profit organization located in the Merrimack Valley.  They are an aggressive, hands-on environmental patrol group that spends all of their time cleaning the Merrimack River. Their mission is to clean, protect, and provide a safer water supply to the many cities and towns who rely heavily on this natural resource.

Their proudest accomplishment is the removal of 81 cars, 8,000 tires, and over 200 tons of trash pulled by hand from the river over the last 14 years as well as placement of 5 containment trash booms which are placed up and down the river and continuously sort, clean and recycle throughout the year.  Edgewood will be taking a boat tour with Dennis on Wednesday, August 22nd.  Sign up required.
