The Strawberry Jazz Ensemble performs American standards by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Richard Rogers and other composers who shaped the sound of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s. The ensemble consists of a guitar, bass and percussion trio backing up a male and a female singer. Lead singer and acoustic director Rebecca Hall, of Stow, selects the repertoire and guides arrangements. A native of Sudbury, Hall has sung in a wide range of choral groups including the Concord Chorus, musical theater and popular music productions. Arnie Rosen, a native of Quincy, has been active on the Boston music scene for over 30 years. A gifted guitarist, composer and arranger, he has performed classical, jazz and original music throughout New England. He works as a musical therapist. Alan Trebat began playing drums at age 10. He performed on drums percussion and timpani in high school. As a teen, he began his schooling in jazz improvisation with pianist Ernie Scott and performed extensively. He also accompanies musical theater, choral and modern dance groups. Bass player and stage manager, Dan Pettengill, got his start on bass in Pittsburgh, with high school band Tommy and the Twilights. A Sudbury resident, Dan is the primary contact for booking. Frank Case, also of Sudbury, sings harmony and solo parts on several songs. A native of Danbury, Connecticut, he played French horn in his high school orchestra. According to stage manager Pettengill, “our goal is to provide entertainment using the medium of the Great American Songbook.”
