“I came to Edgewood and the Meadows for rehabilitation after my hip replacement surgery. I had experienced a lot of other care facilities during my wife’s illness, but the Meadows surpassed them all. My therapy was particularly impressive. When I returned home after 11 short days, I felt in complete control. Everyone at Edgewood was so helpful and friendly and the food was quite good. In fact, I was a little disappointed when it came time to go home!” – Ted Nowell

Memory Support

New England’s only Hearthstone-certified Center of Excellence for memory care

Caring for a person suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia is never easy. Even harder is making the decision to have someone else care for them. It’s important to know they’ll be in good hands. Edgewood has been certified by the Hearthstone Foundation as a Center of Excellence for the third year in a row. We are one of only 10 Hearthstone-certified Centers of Excellence in the U.S. and the only one in New England.

Every member of Edgewood’s dedicated staff is trained in the Hearthstone Foundation’s* “I’m Still Here”™ approach that employs the latest in memory care techniques to help create a calming, therapeutic environment.

The Meadows’ Garden View wing provides a warm, welcoming home-like environment with specialized memory care in a secure, thoughtfully designed environment. Special features include personalized memory boxes outside all rooms, a circular layout to allow residents to navigate freely and safely explore their surroundings, a family-style kitchen, and two outdoor courtyards. Activities are developed by a Certified Recreational Therapist and are provided 12 hours each day.

We are certified by the State of Massachusetts as a Certified Dementia Special Care Unit.

*The Hearthstone Foundation is a Massachusetts-based, internationally recognized organization dedicated to making a difference for people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other cognitive issues. For more information, visit

“The staff here is just outstanding. They are well-trained, helpful, willing, and polite. I am still able to live in our Edgewood apartment while my wife receives the skilled care she needs at the Meadows. Living here has worked out ideally for us, and we are both proud to call this community home.” — Gus Crusius

Respite Care

A well-deserved break for family caregivers

Supporting our members, participants and patients includes providing support for their family caregivers who may be shouldering the main responsibility for their care. The Meadows provides expert short-term respite care to both Edgewood senior living community members and families from the greater community. This service enables family caregivers to take care of their personal needs and other responsibilities — or simply take a well-deserved rest.

Private pay is accepted.

Compassionate, expert care at the end of life

Individuals facing a life-limiting illness deserve to be in a place that is comfortable and homelike. The Sunset Suite at the Meadows is a warm, private suite that comfortably accommodates a resident and his or her family members while receiving hospice care. The beautiful sunset views from the west-facing windows allow them to spend their last days together with dignity and tranquility. Our compassionate caregivers — all of whom have completed ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium) training — focus on resident comfort and quality of life.

Hospice services can also be provided in a resident’s apartment or cottage home.

Private pay and hospice coverage are accepted.
