What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)?

A CCRC is a senior living community in which adults can enjoy a private, maintenance-free residence on an amenity-filled campus with the assurance of exceptional health care without relocation. With one move, you can enhance your financial security, lifestyle and peace of mind.

What is a not-for-profit CCRC?

A not-for-profit CCRC has the interest of the community and its residents (“members” at Edgewood) as its highest priority. Because Edgewood is not-for-profit and self-managed, all investments are used to enhance the community and maximize our commitment to member satisfaction. We want to serve seniors with the highest quality of care and create the best possible lifestyle for our members.

What is LifeCare?

Edgewood is proud to be the Merrimack Valley’s only LifeCare Community. In a LifeCare Community, you’ll have priority access to unlimited care in our on-site health center. A LifeCare Community helps you remain financially secure because of its cost controls and overall value.

What does the entrance fee cover?

Entrance fees ensure we continue to provide high-quality services, amenities and programs to meet member needs and preferences. The entrance fee guarantees residency, use of the common amenities, and access to Home Care Services, Skilled Nursing and Memory Care. Entrance fees vary, depending on the specific residence selected. With Edgewood’s Return-of-Capital Plan, your financial security is also enhanced because when you leave the community, 90% of your entrance fee will be returned to you or to your estate once the residence is resold.

What does the monthly service fee cover?

As a member of our retirement community, virtually everything you need is covered — your residence, most utilities, housekeeping, home maintenance, transportation to local medical visits, Long-Term Skilled Nursing care, weekly shopping trips, a flexible dining plan, and full access to Edgewood events, programs and amenities. Plus, you have the assurance of priority access to a full continuum of care and peace of mind for you and your family.

Is the monthly fee fixed or subject to change?

Monthly fees are typically adjusted annually. These adjustments help our community maintain the level of service members expect while compensating for inflation and other changes in operating costs.

How does the flexible dining plan work?

Each month, as part of the monthly service fee, you will receive a meal plan credit. Credits may be used for any of the dining options on our campus. You may choose from either of our two restaurants. Whichever venue you select, you’ll have a varied menu of delicious options.

Why do seniors choose Edgewood?

People ages 62 and above select Edgewood for many reasons. For some, our idyllic setting tops the list. Edgewood’s beautifully landscaped, picturesque campus on more than 100 acres also offers quick access to the shopping, dining and cultural opportunities of the North Andover area, Boston and the North Shore. In addition to freedom from household maintenance and lawn care, Edgewood members enjoy spacious, attractive residences, choices in dining, social and recreational activities, convenient on-site services, Independent Living, and the security of lifelong health care.

Will my pet be allowed on campus?

Yes, well-behaved pets are welcome in our residences.

Is Edgewood a nonsmoking campus?

Yes, Edgewood retirement community is a smoke-free campus, including all buildings and grounds. This policy includes not only cigarettes and cigars but also e-cigarettes, e-cigars or anything that can be smoked. Residents, staff, guests, vendors, contractors and all visitors must adhere to the Edgewood no-smoking policy.

What type of amenities does Edgewood offer?

In addition to beautiful grounds, putting greens and hiking trails, Edgewood offers an on-campus bank, a convenience store, and an impressive assortment of other amenities, including a fitness center, heated indoor swimming pool, library, two dining venues, room for art and craft projects, an art gallery, and a beauty salon/barbershop, to name just a few. A complete list can be found in the Services and Amenities section of this website.

Is living at Edgewood affordable?

Many people think retirement communities are too expensive. Yet when you look at all the expenses of your home, Edgewood compares favorably, as many of the things you pay for now are part of your Edgewood monthly fee. Compare us against other LifeCare senior living communities that include Independent Living and lifelong health care, and you will find Edgewood is actually more affordable than most metro Boston communities.

Are additional services available?

Yes, some services and programs are available for an additional cost. These may include extra meals for members or guests, alcoholic beverages, transportation, salon services, catering for parties, and more.
