SENIOR FITNESS AND WELLNESS | ACTIVE AGING | NORTH ANDOVER, MA

Embrace active aging for mind, body, and spirit.

Today’s understanding of active aging is about fully engaging with life and pursuing wellness in all its forms. That’s why right here on our campus you’ll find myriad ways to move and strengthen your body, improve balance and flexibility, and practice meditation and mindfulness. You’ll also find the acclaimed Edgewood Lifelong Learning program, art classes, clubs, volunteer opportunities, and other activities that will help keep your brain on its toes. Plus, while you’re moving, learning, and participating, you’ll be making new friends and engaging in stimulating conversation — all of which leads to an active, fulfilling, well-rounded life.

“It’s a wonderful place to meet new people. If you’re able, you can get involved in more things than you ever thought you’d be able to do. In my life, I never thought I’d be in a pool on Sunday playing beachball volleyball. Just put yourself out there, try new things, and you’ll be surprised how much living here will add to your life.”

Fitness Center

Build strength, balance, and flexibility.

In Edgewood’s well-equipped Fitness Center, our wellness specialist will work with you to develop an individualized workout program using specialized cardio and strength-training equipment. If you’re interested in group classes, you’ll find all types. Circuit training classes help build strength and flexibility, yoga and tai chi can improve your flexibility and balance, and seasonal outdoor offerings like guided kayaking, walking groups and outdoor games add a breath of fresh air as they take advantage of Edgewood’s picturesque campus. And best of all, you’ll never have to get in the car to drive to the gym.
Aquatic Center

Aquatic Center

Make a splash and have some fun.

Surrounded by walls of windows that provide views of the landscape or even the falling snow, every day is a perfect day for a swim in Edgewood’s Aquatic Center, where it’s always a balmy 85 degrees. This is the place to go for a quick dip, an invigorating lap swim, or fun group activities like aquacise classes or our popular beachball volleyball games. And after a workout or other physical activity — or if you just want to relax — the whirlpool is the perfect way to soothe tired muscles.

Mindfulness

Feed your mind and spirit.

Mindfulness is a practice of paying attention to what is happening in and around you while maintaining an attitude of curiosity, kindness, and compassion. And science is showing significant benefits for both physical and mental health — from improved immune function and decreased pain to increased happiness and life satisfaction. Each week, Edgewood offers a variety of group classes that incorporate mindfulness practices including tai chi, yoga, and relaxation techniques. You’ll also find spiritual programs, interfaith services, and a serene meditation garden for quiet contemplation or prayer.

The Great Lawn

Gather with friends.

Located just outside the Clubhouse, The Great Lawn was purpose-built for socializing, recreation, and relaxation. The outdoor kitchen and dining area hosts frequent cookouts and other events that bring the community together. Bring a few friends or your grandchildren and play bocce, badminton, horseshoes, or other lawn games. Read or enjoy some quiet time in the meditation garden with the soothing sounds of trickling water. Then, as the day draws to a close, enjoy camaraderie and conversation around the firepit as you share the spectacular sunset views.
Outdoor fitness

Outdoor Fitness

Go outside and play.

Edgewood’s campus on more than 100 acres adjoining conservation land and scenic Lake Cochichewick is a year-round playground for those who like their fitness with a side of fresh air. Plant your own fruits, vegetables, herbs, or flowers in a raised garden bed. Go for a bike ride. Join an outdoor walking group and take advantage of paved paths or take a hike on the North Andover Trail System that traverses our campus. Head down to the lake for some kayaking, canoeing, or fishing. And, in the winter, don your snowshoes and go exploring. There’s virtually no end to the opportunities right outside your door.
